Findlay Defeats Thomas More 1-0 in Hard-Fought G-MAC Clash
Crestview Hills, Ky. – The University of Findlay men's soccer team earned a gritty 1-0 road victory over Thomas More on Saturday October 25, at Republic Bank Field. With the win, the Oilers improve to 7-5-2 overall and 6-3-2 in G-MAC play, while the Saints fall to 8-5-2 (6-3-2 G-MAC).
Findlay broke through in the 42nd minute when junior Emerson Layman netted his first goal of the season off a pinpoint assist from senior Ryan Dickinson, giving the Oilers a lead they would protect the rest of the match.
Despite being outshot 21-3, Findlay made the most of its chances and leaned on a stellar defensive performance. Layman, senior Jeroen Van Der Veen, and junior Carson Oberski each registered a shot for the Oilers, while Dickinson added the lone assist.
In goal, senior Keegan Grant was outstanding, recording seven saves en route to his fourth shutout of the season.
The Oilers weathered heavy second-half pressure from Thomas More, who fired 14 shots after halftime but couldn't find the back of the net.
The Oilers are back in action on Thursday, October 30, when they host Ashland in a G-MAC matchup at 4 p.m.
