Week 7: Unbeaten Oilers Host KWC

The Game
Now past the halfway point of the season, the Oilers have established themselves as the team to beat in the Great Midwest and are currently one of just nine teams in Division II to remain unbeaten. After a close Homecoming victory over Hillsdale, Findlay, ranked no. 16 in the country, welcomes Kentucky Wesleyan to town for the fifth of seven home games this year. The game will kick off at noon on Saturday, Oct. 18.

#16 Findlay Oilers (6-0, 4-0 G-MAC)

2025 Findlay Football Coaching Staff

The University of Findlay Oilers are off to a dominant start in the 2025 football season, boasting a perfect 6-0 record overall and 4-0 in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play. The Oilers have climbed to No. 16 in the NCAA Division II Coaches Poll and currently sit atop the G-MAC standings.

Findlay has earned wins over Indianapolis, Wayne State, Lake Erie, Thomas More, Walsh and Hillsdale. Their most recent victory came in a tight 16-14 decision over Hillsdale on Homecoming weekend. The Oilers have outscored opponents 162-72 through six games, averaging 27.0 points per game while allowing just 12.0, both marks among the best in the conference.

Offensively, Findlay ranks near the top of the G-MAC in total offense, averaging 360.5 yards per game. The rushing attack has been balanced and effective, led by Christian Davis, who has rushed for 247 yards and three touchdowns on 53 carries, averaging 4.7 yards per attempt. Jayden Farmer has added 256 yards and two scores, while Dominic Bennett has chipped in 215 yards on just 33 carries, averaging a league-best 6.5 yards per carry.

Quarterback play has been efficient, with the team completing 95 of 135 passes for 1,217 yards and 11 touchdowns. The passing game averages 202.8 yards per contest and 9.0 yards per attempt. Andrew Leonard leads the G-MAC in completion percentage thus far, hooking up on 70% of this throws. Lately he has been loving the connection with wideout Denny Furlong who last week became the first player in ten years at Findlay to put together three consecutive games with 100 or more receiving yards.

Defensively, the Oilers have been stout, allowing just 241.3 yards per game. The unit has recorded ten sacks for 69 yards and forced five turnovers. Opponents are converting just 28.8 percent of third downs and have failed to score on seven fourth-down attempts. The defense has also held opponents to just five touchdowns in 17 red zone trips making UF the sixth-best red zone defense in Division II.

About the Opponent – Kentucky Wesleyan (0-6, 0-4 G-MAC)

The Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers are still in search of their first win of the 2025 football season, entering the second half of the campaign with an 0-6 overall record and 0-4 mark in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play. The Panthers have struggled to find offensive rhythm and defensive consistency, and have not scored a touchdown since Week 3.

Kentucky Wesleyan ranks last in the G-MAC in scoring offense, averaging just 6.3 points per game. The team has scored five total touchdowns, four passing and one on a return, and has yet to record a rushing touchdown. The Panthers also rank last in total offense (239.2 yards per game), rushing offense (61.0 yards per game), and yards per play (3.7). Their third-down conversion rate sits at 34.5 percent, and they've scored on just four of 11 red zone trips.

The passing game has produced 1,069 yards on 112 completions, with nine interceptions and four touchdowns. Quarterback Harrison Burch leads the team with 135 passing yards in the most recent outing against Ohio Dominican, and has thrown for over 500 yards on the season. However, Burch is not listed on the depth chart this week with the starting role being given to freshman Justus Wertzler. Wertzler has played in three games this year and is 6-for-12 passing for 92 yards and a touchdown, but he has not appeared in a contest since Sep. 20.

On the ground, Emmanuel McRae leads the team with 131 rushing yards on 40 carries, averaging 3.3 yards per attempt. Dominick Hollis is close behind with 126 yards on 39 carries. DeMauriah Brown has been the most efficient runner, averaging 5.4 yards per carry on 19 attempts, including a long run of 27 yards.

In the receiving corps, Camron Brogan has emerged as a reliable target, hauling in a 29-yard touchdown pass in Week 3 against Walsh, the team's last touchdown. DJ Perry and Jakoby Cox have also contributed in the passing game, though overall production has been limited.

Defensively, the Panthers have allowed a conference-high 37.8 points per game and 375.2 yards per contest. Opponents have rushed for 1,261 yards and 17 touchdowns, averaging 5.4 yards per carry. The defense has also given up 990 passing yards and 10 touchdowns.

Linebacker Nehemiah Askew leads the team in tackles, including nine against Ashland. Defensive backs Jalon Baker and Jahiem Williams have each recorded interceptions.

Special teams have seen mixed results. Punter Cole Cawthorne averages 35.1 yards per punt, and the team has converted just one of five field goal attempts.

Kentucky Wesleyan will look to reverse its fortunes in the final stretch of the season. The Panthers host Northwood on Oct. 25 and then hit the road for games at Tiffin and Lake Erie. They close the season at home against Thomas More on Nov. 15 for Senior Day.
