Men's Golf Leads Doc Spragg Fall Invite Thru Day One

Findlay, Ohio- The University of Findlay men's golf team played host to the first day of the Doc Spragg Fall Invite at Findlay Country Club on Monday, Oct. 13. With the temperatures hovering around 70 degrees with slight wind- the Oilers averaged 71.4 on the day, nearly three shots better than the field average of 74.21. The two-day, 54-hole event features a strong Midwest regional field, including #22 Missouri- St. Louis. 

The Oilers who were in second place after a round one score of 285 (-3) used a 281 (-7) to finish day one atop the leaderboard. Their 36-hole total of 566 (-10) puts gives them a three shot lead over Missouri- St. Louis heading into the final round.

Findlay was led by senior Luke Metzger who is tied for fourth place. The Mason, Ohio native recorded rounds of 71 (-1) and 70 (-2) for a 36-hole score of 141 (-3). Freshman Ross Dietz and senior Zach Miller are both tied for tenth at two-under par.

Findlay 'A' Team

The Oilers also had a "B Team" and "C Team" competing at the event. The "B Team" is in third place while the "C Team" is in 15th. Senior Brady Gazarek played well, carding rounds of 73 (+1) before a Findlay-low 68 (-4). He is in a tie for fourth at three-under par. His 68 is the sixth best 18-hole score in program history. Sophomore Cody Widener also finds himself in the top-10 at two-under par.

Findlay will wrap up the event tomorrow, Oct. 14, with the final 18 holes.
