The University of Findlay’s Department of Computer Science is preparing to host the 24th Annual Information Assurance Forum on Wednesday, October 29 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in UF’s Winebrenner TLB Auditorium, located at 950 N. Main St., Findlay.

“Autonomous Mobility” takes the driver’s seat as this year’s forum theme. This is a timely discussion with the growing prevalence of cybersecurity concerns, especially in the sectors of autonomous manufacturing, automotive and trucking, and government/military drones, which pose widespread impact on the business and industrial world.

Presentations & Purpose

A wide range of speakers will present on their area of expertise throughout the day. Speakers representing government, military, emergency response, manufacturing, and higher education are slated for the event. UF students and faculty will also contribute to the speaking lineup – highlighted by student capstone presentations.

“Part of our mission as a Center of Academic Excellence in Cybersecurity is outreach to increase awareness on our campus and in the world,” said Helen Schneider, PhD, associate professor and chair of computer science. “We use this event to educate our majors, and to give them a chance to present to others.”

Event Specifics

The event is open to the community and complimentary thanks to several dedicated sponsors. You can register for the event by visiting www.iaforum.net. Lunch is included for those who RSVP by Oct. 22. If unable to attend in person, you can attend via Microsoft Teams (link provided upon registering) or follow along live on UF TV.

Sponsors of the event include CentraComm Cybersecurity, Systems Group Technologies, RCR Technology Group, J. Steve Welton – Hancock County Treasurer, GSW Manufacturing, LJW Cyber Consulting, and The Alliance of Findlay-Hancock County.

The forum welcomes students, faculty, and staff from UF, students from other colleges and high schools, community members, and professionals with an interest in computers and security, and regional businesses. Last year, over 300 individuals attended collectively, in person and online.

Collaboration Efforts

The IA Forum is an annual event that brings together UF and regional business communities to explore emerging technologies and their information security and privacy implications, and potential to impact cybersecurity. This year, it’s also bringing to local universities together as speakers from Tiffin University and their Drone Academy will share insights at the forum.

“Working with nearby schools with cybersecurity curriculum, we bring together the next generation of cyber professionals that will help protect the region and beyond,” Schneider noted. She added, “This event serves as a great opportunity to network with others embracing emerging technologies in the region, and to learn from their experiences.”
