University of Findlay held its VIP2 Day on Friday, Oct. 13, 2023, welcoming more than 50 high school students to learn more about career options in pharmacy. “Very Important Potential Pharmacist” (VIP2) Day gives students a hands-on look into the various fields within pharmacy.
Students spent time learning more about community-based pharmacy, the research opportunities at UF, medicinal compounding, and how to read and dispense prescriptions written by doctors. “VIP2 Day is a low-stakes opportunity for students to come in, be with like-minded people, potentially spark an interest in pharmacy, or even solidify the desire to study pharmacy after high school,” said Debra Parker, Pharm.D. dean of the College of Pharmacy.
The pharmacy exploration day often leads to students returning for the four-day pharmacy camp each summer. “Students start thinking earlier and earlier about what they want to do in their careers. We have even offered a camp specifically for middle school students,” said Parker.
