Amy DePuy | Thu Jan 9, 2020

Join three hilarious multicultural entertainers for University of Findlay’s 18th annual Comedy Jam on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2020! Headliner Justin Rupple will be joined by Flo Hernandez and Shawn Felipe for an uproarious evening.

The show will begin at 8 p.m. at Marathon Center for the Performing Arts. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at MCPA’s box office. Admission will be free for UF students, faculty, and staff with a free ticket, acquired in advance by calling the box office at 419-423-2787 or here. The show is rated PG-13. Children in attendance must be 13 or older and accompanied by an adult.

After receiving his degree from Washington State University, where he attended the Edward R. Murrow School of Communications, Rupple began performing stand-up comedy in 2006 at the legendary, but now defunct, Giggles Comedy Club in Seattle. He found his footing in 2006 at the Seattle International Comedy Club, and was then hired by Parlor Live Comedy Club, where he served as its first and only house host for two years, performing six shows a week.

Rupple moved to Los Angeles in 2010 to maintain momentum. In 2019, he was the voice of Tuffnut in the latest “How to Train Your Dragon”. Justin just finished, “Operation Chromite,” starring Liam Neeson, to be released in summer 2020 and the legendary Dana Carvey and company tapped him to compete on the new comedic game show “First Impressions” on the USA Network, which will air on May 24, 2020.

Hernandez, a Dallas, Texas native, is also advancing rapidly on the premier comedy stage. As a Latino comic, critics have compared him to greats such as George Lopez and the late Freddy Soto. Flo delivers fast-paced, high-energy stand up that crosses cultural, ethnic, and economic boundaries. He has become popular with major clubs such as Hollywood Improv, and frequently takes his show on the road to other notable venues: The Laugh Factory, NY Comedy Club, The Ha Ha Comedy Club, The Comedy Store, Commerce Casino, Hippodrome Theater, The Majestic Theater, Stone Street Theater, Saboba Casino, Cine El Rey Theater, to name a few.

Hernandez has cultivated a multicultural base with signature routines such as “Paleta Man,” “Garage Sale,” and “Taco Salad.” He gave the corporate cubicle 9-to-5 career a try, but soon recognized his true talent is making people laugh. Born to proud Mexican America parents, he was always the class clown while growing up, and is continuing to cultivate that gift as a full-time career, taking risks that are paying off.

Hernandez has been on Bill Bellamy’s Who’s Got Jokes. In 2008, he was see on America’s Got talent, then in 2010 he won “Texas Funniest Comic” and in 2011 he was featured on Showtime’s Chris Spencer: Minority Report. You can see him on HBO Latino.

Flo loves to make people laugh. Live stand-up is his specialty!

Felipe, a comedian, actor, and personality from Honolulu, Hawaii, is known for his iconic and clever real-life stories as they expand internationally. His live, stand-up comedy stretches around the globe from the USA to Singapore, Canada, Japan, Korea, and the Middle East. He has been recognized as Hawaii Music Award’s Best New Artist, Best Take Out Comic in Hawaii, and by the Most Recognized Comedy Competition in the USA. He was named the Top 7 Comic at the world-renowned 36th Annual San Francisco International Comedy Competition.

Felipe’s stand-up comedy has been featured on various international networks such as WorldAsia TV, Time Network, and National Lampoon’s Comedy Radio. He has been the guest star on NBC’s cop TV series “Hawaii” and has been in several national commercials. Felipe was also part of the Aloha Plate team that won first place on Food Network’s “The Great Food Truck Race.”

At the conclusion of the show, all three comedians will be in the main entrance atrium for a meet and greet, photos and to autograph programs. This will be at no additional charge to attendees.

The 18th Annual Comedy Jam is being brought to the community by the University of Findlay’s Student Activities Board, “your source for diverse edutainment”; and by Marathon Center for the Performing Arts.
