Oilers Shutout Tiffin for Third Straight Win
Tiffin, Ohio – The University of Findlay women's soccer team earned its third straight shutout victory with a 1-0 win over Tiffin University on Saturday, Oct. 4, at Paradiso Fields in Tiffin, Ohio. The Oilers move to 5-2-3 overall and 4-1-1 in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play, while the Dragons fall to 1-6-2 on the season and 0-5-1 in conference play.
The first half saw the Oilers control possession and dictate the pace, generating multiple scoring opportunities but unable to find the back of the net. The Oilers outshot Tiffin 12-3 in the opening frame, forcing the Dragons' goalkeeper to make five saves to keep the game scoreless at the break.
Findlay's pressure continued into the second half as the offense stayed on the attack. The breakthrough finally came in the 79th minute when freshman Addison Williams buried a goal, finishing a well-placed ball to give the Oilers the lead.
The goal proved to be the difference in the match as the Findlay defense remained solid the rest of the way.
The Oilers' back line, anchored by senior Audrey Gibson-Zweifel in goal, limited Tiffin to just four total shots and two on target. Senior goalkeepers Gibson-Zweifel and Cat Graves have not allowed a goal in the last 270 minutes of play.
Offensively, the Oilers finished with a 26-4 advantage in total shots, including 11 on goal, and held a 6-3 edge in corner kicks. Seniors Raegan Smith, Ava Ayers, and Sydney Noble tallied four shots each.
Findlay will look to keep its momentum rolling as the team returns home to DeHaven Field on Thursday, Oct. 9, to take on Northwood. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m
