University of Findlay Choir Goes on International Tour
Branden Ferguson Posted On March 25, 2024
Dozens of students from University of Findlay made the trip overseas earlier this month to take part in an international choir concert tour through the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Austria.
SeaHwa Jung, DMA serves as the director of choral activities at University of Findlay and chairs the Department of Visual and Performing Arts. Several years ago, Jung proposed a concert tour to Hradec Králové in the Czech Republic where University of Hradec Králové is located. “Despite skepticism from some colleagues who deemed it overly ambitious, I was confident in its potential to offer enriching musical experiences to my students and audiences worldwide,” Jung said.
Last year Jung’s dream turned into reality when he and his students conducted a concert tour, marking it the first international tour in UF history. “Buoyed by the success of the previous tour, I proposed another ambitious endeavor – a combined concert tour with students from four institutions to present the Choral Festival.
University of Findlay combined with University of Hradec Králové, Palacky University of Olomouc, and the University of Performing Arts in Slovakia. “We held three concerts in Hradec Králové and Olomouc in the Czech Republic, and Bratislava, Slovakia, all of which received standing ovations which does not happen all the time in Europe,” Jung said.
Beyond the performances, the festival fostered profound friendships among students and colleagues. Students became close during their trip, leading to connections through social media and heartfelt farewells. “Witnessing students create unforgettable memories through the power of music makes it all worthwhile,” said Jung.
The trip was made possible through the support of all of the institutions involved, various donors and supporters, and the Curtain Raisers who provided financial assistance.
