FINDLAY, Ohio – University of Findlay English professor Dave Essinger is set to release his next novel, “This World and the Next,” this fall. The novel explores a hauntingly familiar yet uniquely unsettling apocalypse scenario, promising readers a gripping narrative that blends horror, humor, and unexpected hope.
In “This World and the Next,” chaos erupts as societal structures collapse amidst government dysfunction, riots, and widespread blackouts. Teenager Rosa Calder and her eclectic group seek refuge deep beneath an Ohio airbase, only to emerge to a world devoid of humanity and functioning systems. As Rosa navigates the eerie aftermath with her sharp-witted best friend Hannah and an unlikely cohort of survivors, they confront nihilistic threats, a mysterious biochemical researcher, and messianic factions’ intent on reshaping the remnants of civilization.
Mark Brazaitis, author of “American Seasons” and “The Incurables: Stories,” praises Essinger’s narrative as a fresh take on the apocalypse genre, highlighting its blend of horror and humor. Tobias S. Buckell, author of “Arctic Rising,” describes “This World and the Next” as a political thriller that thrills and chills from start to finish.
The novel, priced at $17.95, is available for preorder at $10, offering readers an early opportunity to secure their copy.
