University of Findlay’s recently remodeled Newhard Planetarium is presenting “Two Small Pieces of Glass – The Amazing Telescope” every Monday and Friday throughout the month of February. Community members are invited to attend the showing. The event is free to the public, but donations can be made.
The events will take place Feb. 9, 12, 16, 19, and 23. Shows will start at 6 p.m. and have a run time of 23 minutes. While registration is not required for the events, it is encouraged. Registration will close at 2 p.m. on the day of each showing. Each viewing has a capacity limit of 40 people.
“Two Small Pieces of Glass – The Amazing Telescope” aims to engage and appeal to audiences of all ages and explores the wonder and discovery made by astronomers throughout the last 400 years. The show follows two students as they interact with a female astronomer at a local star party. Along the way, the students learn the history of the telescope from Galileo’s modifications to a child’s spyglass – using two small pieces of glass – to the launch of the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope and the future of astronomy.
