Same School, Same Major, Same Love Story: Findlay Faithfuls Jason ’10, MPA ’14 and Amanda (Strauss ’11) Loyer MPA ’20

Jason ’10, MPAS ’14 and Amanda (Strauss ‘11) Loyer ’20 both entered University of Findlay with a focus on nuclear medicine. The two of them took the same classes, ate in the same dining hall, and walked on the same sidewalks. Despite their proximity to one another, the two never met during their time at UF.
Jason and Amanda enjoyed their time at UF, but they shared their own favorite memories without one another. “My favorite memory on campus comes from welcome week where I met Stephen Piwowar and Chris Lucas,” said Amanda. “Theta Chi was a huge part of my undergraduate experience and ultimately led to the lifelong friendships that I still have,” Jason said.
Amanda’s new friends Stephen and Chris would ultimately change the course of her life forever. Stephen was Jason’s little in the fraternity and Chris was Jason’s best friend. The two fraternity brothers and new friends of Amanda would later go on to change Jason and Amanda’s life forever.
Jason attend UF for his master’s and finished his graduate degree in the Physician Assistant program in 2014. Amanda would go on to apply and get accepted with her maiden name. Amanda and Jason were introduced to one another December 2016 by their mutual friend Chris. Jason and Amanda would date from 2017-2018 and eventually get married July 9, 2018.
By the time Amanda started her masters, she was entering as “Amanda Loyer”—a name professors didn’t recognize, but a last name that looked eerily familiar to a student that graduated just a few years prior (Jason Loyer). “The professors loved that they had a married couple come through the program,” Amanda said.
“People think our story is very wild! Not only did we attend the same small school, but we had the same undergrad major,” said Jason. “We have a lot of similar friends, and they still don’t understand how we never crossed paths in school, especially with me being friends with one of his best friends and his little in the fraternity,” Amanda added. “Findlay made both of us who we are today, but we were shaped separately by the University. Nonetheless, we were still brought together.”
Amanda and Jason both still reside in Findlay and work as physician assistants. Jason works at the Orthopaedic Institute of Ohio and Amanda works in the emergency department at Blanchard Valley Hospital. They enjoy going on cruises together, taking 11 trips since getting together and planning many more. When they are not traveling the world, they are enjoying time with their four fur babies (two cats and two dogs), in what Amanda says, “at times feels like a zoo.”
