The 18th annual University of Findlay Spring Horse Sale was held on Saturday, April 29th, bringing an end to the 2022-2023 academic school year. The horses used by University equestrian students throughout the year were put on display and auctioned off to the highest bidders.
Throughout the fall and spring semesters, Findlay equestrian students spend countless hours caring for and training all of the horses in the sale. Students then plan and promote the annual horse sale through social media efforts, photography, and event setup. Proceeds from the sale are put toward scholarships and the purchase of new horses for students to work with the following academic year.
This year, 34 horses went through the sale. 31 of them belonged to the University, and resulted in more than $290,000 in sales. The horses from the sale will go on to be used in competitions, trail and ranch riding, equestrian therapy, and become 4-H horses. Winning bids on Saturday ranged from $2,200 to $17,800, with “Smartest Mobster Yet” taking home the title of “highest seller.”
Next year’s horse sale has already been scheduled, and will take place on Saturday, April 27, 2024 at University of Findlay’s equestrian farm.
