University of Findlay will host its annual Constitution Day event, scheduled for September 23, 2024, at 6:30 p.m. in the Ritz Auditorium. This year’s distinguished guest speaker will be Judge Lisa Forbes, a candidate for the Ohio Supreme Court.
Judge Forbes, who was elected to the Eighth District Court of Appeals in 2020, brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to the law. Her extensive background in both trial and appellate courts across Ohio has earned her the highest peer ratings from lawyers, a testament to her expert handling of complex legal cases.
Judge Forbes will discuss the vital role of the Ohio Supreme Court in safeguarding individual rights and freedoms, particularly in an era where partisan interests threaten to undermine judicial independence. She will also address her vision for maintaining the integrity of the court, ensuring it remains a fair and unbiased protector of justice for all Ohioans.
Judge Forbes’ career spans over 27 years, including her tenure as a partner at a national law firm in Cleveland where she tackled a diverse array of legal issues, from complex business disputes to consumer class actions. Her dedication to the law is matched by her commitment to community service, as evidenced by her leadership roles with The Centers, Circle Health, and Cleveland Christian Home, as well as her active participation in local bar associations and election day volunteering.
University of Findlay invites students, faculty, and the local community to join us for this engaging and insightful event. This Constitution Day lecture is an opportunity to reflect on the principles of justice and the crucial role of the judiciary in upholding the Constitution.
