Making Connections Through Music: A Celebration of Collaboration and Tradition
Josh Eilola Posted On November 15, 2024
University of Findlay is proud to host the 131st performance of Handel’s Messiah on Saturday, Dec. 7, at 7:30 p.m. in Winebrenner Auditorium. This performance is part of a two-night celebration in collaboration with Bluffton University, marking a significant moment of connection between the two institutions. SeaHwa Jung, DMA., associate professor of music and chair of visual and performing arts at the University of Findlay, will conduct both the 130th performance at Bluffton University and the 131st performance in Findlay.
“Conducting Messiah is my favorite piece of work,” shared Jung. “I have performed this magnificent work many times as both a singer and conductor, and I am truly looking forward to bringing this tradition to both campuses. My hope is that it inspires everyone to reflect on the true meaning of the Christmas season.”
The performances will feature a collaborative choir that includes members of the Bluffton Choral Society, University of Findlay Choir, College First Church of God Choir, and the Findlay Civic Choir. The choirs will be accompanied by a professional orchestra under Jung’s direction.
Jung envisions the partnership as a meaningful way to bring together the Bluffton and Findlay communities. “This collaboration is a new beginning for both universities,” he explained. “My goal is to create good music and share good faith for a brighter tomorrow.”
The event highlights the growing connection between the University of Findlay and Bluffton University, with the shared tradition of Messiah exemplifying the potential for future partnerships.
Both Messiah performances are free and open to the public, but seating is limited, and reservations are required.
