Women's Basketball Falls 75-55 in Exhibition at Cleveland State

Cleveland, Ohio – The University of Findlay women's basketball team hit the road for a preseason exhibition game against Division I Cleveland State on Wednesday, Oct. 29. Despite leading midway through the third quarter, the Oilers ended with a 75-55 loss to the Vikings.

Trailing 34-32 a minute into the second half, Findlay went on a 9-0 run, capped by a three from junior MacKenzie Schulz who scored seven of the nine points in that stretch. That 41-34 lead would be the Oilers' biggest of the game.

Cleveland State responded with a run of their own, outscoring the Oilers 17-4 over the final 5:44 to take a 51-45 lead with ten minutes to play.

The Vikings saved their best for last, scoring 24 points in the fourth quarter while holding UF to just ten, a period in which the Oilers shot just 31% from the floor including 0-of-6 from behind the arc.

Findlay finished the game shooting 24-55 (44%) including 4-of-20 (20%) from three-point range. The Oilers had 37 rebounds, 12 of which came on the offensive glass.

Senior Alyssa Ziehler led the way for the Orange and Black, securing a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds. Schulz scored 14 points on 6-of-12 from the floor that included a pair of triples. Grad student Ariyah Douglas and junior Madison French each scored six points. French was second on the team with five boards.

The Oilers kick off the regular season on Friday, Nov. 14 on the road against Lake Superior State in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan.
