Oilers Outlast Ashland in Offensive Showcase | Earn 4-2 Victory

Findlay, Ohio- On a rainy afternoon at DeHaven Field, the University of Findlay men's soccer team earned a commanding 4-2 victory over the Ashland University Eagles on Thursday, Oct. 30. The Oilers, who clinched a spot in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Soccer Tournament earlier today, improves to 8-5-2 on the season with a 7-3-2 mark in league play. Meanwhile, Ashland falls to 4-9-3 with a 3-8-2 record in the conference.

Findlay struck first in the 15th minute as graduate student Tom Middleham found the back of the net off an assist from senior Ryan Dickinson. The Oilers took a 2-0 lead as graduate student Jeroen Van Der Veen recorded just his second goal of his season, thanks to an assist from Middleham. Findlay would carry this 2-0 lead into the half.

Just three minutes into the second half, the Eagles scored to bring the score within one at 2-1. Findlay reestablished their commanding lead just seven minutes later as junior Carson Oberski scored the first of his two goals on the day to take a 3-1 lead.

Ashland once again brought the game within one as they scored in the 65th minute to threaten the Oilers at 3-2. It was Oberski that put the contest to rest, scoring his second goal of the day in the 80th minute to bring the score to 4-2. 

The contest was an offensive battle as the two squads combined for 43 shots. Findlay recorded 21 of those while recording ten on goal. Meanwhile, Ashland amassed 22 with nine on goal. 

Senior Keegan Grant went the full 90 minutes recording seven saves.

Findlay returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 1, when they travel to Painesville, Ohio, to take on Lake Erie College at 1 pm.
