Athletic excitement on campus

The University of Findlay campus is buzzing with excitement as Oiler fans prepare for a full day of home games on Saturday, Sept. 27, with four teams in action and a “blackout” football game under the lights capping off the day. This comes on the heels of the announcement that women’s golf is ranked No. 1 by the Women’s Golf Coaches Association for the first time in program history.
While they don’t play again until Monday, Sept. 29 at the Gilda’s Club Laker Fall Invite hosted by Grand Valley State University, plenty of other teams are ready to entertain Oiler fans today.
The action begins at 1 p.m. at DeHaven Soccer Complex when the men’s soccer team takes on Ohio Dominican University. At 2:30 p.m. the No. 23 Findlay volleyball team takes the court in Croy against Ashland University , followed by a women’s soccer match at 4 p.m. back at DeHaven. All this leads up to a primetime football showdown at 7 p.m. at Donnell Stadium, where fans are encouraged to wear black for a “blackout” theme in support of the team.
For UF senior student Logan Johnson, the lineup of games are a must.
“I’m buzzed to go to these games this weekend, the two soccer games, the volleyball game, and a nighttime football game,” Johnson said. “Blackout at night? That’s going to be so electric.”
The excitement around campus is palpable, with students rearranging their schedules to be part of the atmosphere.
The success of the fall teams ads to the enthusiasm as the women’s golf team moves from No. 4 to No. 1 in the country and the football team goes into the night game ranked No. 25 in the nation.
“To be honest, I’m going to push off my studying to do it,” Johnson added. “It is going to be worth it, to be quite honest”
The all-day schedule offers a unique opportunity for Oiler fans to support multiple teams in one day. The athletic department is encouraging students, alumni and community members to show their school spirit and pack the stands for each event.
With fall sports in full swing, Saturday’s schedule represents a high point in campus engagement and team support. But if you can’t watch in person, you can check out UFTV streaming the events online.
“This is what college is about,” Johnson said. “Everyone together, cheering for our classmates and teams all day. I can’t wait.”
