Kovacevic / Ouellet Take on Nation's Best at ITA Cup in Georgia
Rome, Georgia – The University of Findlay women's tennis team had a pair of players earn a spot in the 2025 ITA Cup which was held in Rome, Georgia this weekend. The tournament is an invite-only tournament and one of the most prestigious championships on the tennis calendar. The Oilers doubles team of Anamarija Kovacevic and Audrey Ouellet secured their spot by winning the ITA Midwest Regional Doubles tournament two weeks ago. This is the second consecutive year that Kovacevic has attended the event after earning a trip in singles last season.
On Thursday, Kovacevic and Ouellet matched up with Rin Igarashi and Sofia Antolini of Catawba College. Kovacevic / Ouellet picked up a first set win and, after dropping the second, won in a tiebreaker, winning the match 6-4, 3-6, 10-7. That victory advanced the duo to the east bracket quarterfinals.
Facing the #4 ranked doubles team in the country in Dana Heimen / Anastasia-Aleksandra Nikolova of perennial powerhouse Barry University, Findlay's twosome lost 7-5, 6-0. Things did not get easier as they then went into the consolation bracket to face the #9 doubles team in the country, Carlota Verdu / Sandra Recuenco Tarin of West Florida. Kovacevic / Ouellet battled but came up just shy, falling 6-4, 3-6, 10-6.
Kovacevic also took advantage of the talent at the event by playing a one-off singles match against Pete Komada of Central Oklahoma. She picked up the win 6-2, 7-6 (7-4).
Findlay will wrap up its' fall season with a trip to Detroit, Michigan for the Wayne State Doubles Tournament on Saturday, Oct. 25.
