Ouellet / Kovacevic Highlight ITA Regionals with "A" Doubles Victory
Grand Rapids, Mich. – The University of Findlay women's tennis team made a statement at the NCAA Division II ITA Midwest Regional tournament, held October 4–6 and hosted by Davenport University, highlighted by a championship run in A Doubles.
Senior duo Anamarija Kovacevic and Audrey Ouellet dominated the A Doubles bracket, winning five consecutive matches to claim the regional title. The pair opened with an 8-5 win over Michigan Tech, then rolled through the next three rounds, including a commanding 8-1 victory in the Round of 16 and a tight 9-7 battle in the quarterfinals. In the championship match, Kovacevic and Ouellet sealed the title with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Saginaw Valley's Nicoletta Diamantopoulos and Fatimah Butt. Ouellet also was a winner in the "A" singles consolation bracket after being eliminated in the main draw in the round of 64. She ran through the consolation bracket with three consecutive victories.
The Oilers also saw strong performances across the board. Maria Batinic reached the semifinals in A Singles with four straight wins, while Ivanova Lucero advanced to the semifinals in B Singles and teamed with Ivana Gombitova for a semifinal run in B Doubles. Salek and Zaytseva added a semifinal finish in A Doubles, rounding out a successful weekend for the program.
Findlay is back in action on Thursday, Oct. 16, starting a four-day event in Rome, Georgia, the ITA Cup.
