Series Information

The Oilers and Rockets have played a number of exhibition games over the years and have met 29 times during the regular season. Toledo holds a 21-8 mark against the Oilers in those games.

The two programs last met in an exhibition game in Findlay to kick off the 2023-24 campaign.

Despite a dunk by Toledo's Tyler Cochran just two seconds into the game, the Oilers held steady in the opening minutes of the contest. After a three-point miss by then freshman Anthony Johnson to start the game, Findlay hit on six consecutive shots, including triples by Nathan Bruns and then sophomore Jagger Landers, to take a 14-13 lead.

That would be the Oilers last lead of the game as Toledo, which made 24-of-33 (72.7%) of their field goals in the first half, powered their way to a 58-34 lead at the break. Findlay never cut the deficit to less than 20 points the remainder of the game.

Despite not closing the gap in the second half, Findlay was only outscored by one, 37-36, in the final frame.

As a team, Findlay hit on 28-of-63 (44.4%) shots from the floor including 10-of-21 from beyond the arc. Toledo cooled off in the second half but still finished the game 39-of-64 (60.9%) including just 6-of-16 (37.5%) from three-point range.

Much of the Rockets' success came in close as they scored 56 points in the paint. Toledo also took advantage of Findlay's 21 turnovers, scoring 25 points off of those miscues, many of which contributed to the Rockets' 22 fast break points.

Nathan Bruns and Jagger Landers tied for the team lead with 12 points scored while Khalil Luster chipped in 11. Bruns also added five rebounds while Landers had four.

Anthony Johnson scored seven points in his Oilers debut while Cameron Shaw had six. Then Sophomore Mason Brandt scored four points and led the team with seven rebounds.

Findlay

The Oilers finished last season with a 24-5 record with a 17-3 mark in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) and averaged 84.9 points per contest. Despite losing their leading scorer from last season, the Oilers return their entire roster with the addition of three newcomers.

Senior Jagger Landers returns to lead the team after earning first team all-conference honors. Landers averaged 10.4 points and 4.3 rebounds per game while shooting 48.5 percent from the floor. He also connected on 35.3 percent of his three point attempts.

Senior Mekhi Elmore returns after averaging 10.8 points and 2.9 rebounds per game in a season shortened by injury, playing just 16 games.

Junior Anthony Johnson returns to run the offense for Findlay. The guard ended last season with the second best assist-to-turnover ratio in all of Division II with 4.18. He also averaged 8.7 points while leading the team with 3.2 assists per game.

Toledo

The Rockets finished the campaign with an 18-15 record and 10-8 mark in the Mid-American Conference (MAC).

Junior guard Sonny Wilson ranked second on the team last season, averaging 15.3 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game. He is Toledo's only returning starter. Sophomore guard Tyler Ode and sophomore Jaylan Ouwinga also return this year.

The Rockets have added several transfers, including senior forward Sean Craig from IUPU-Indy, junior center Austin Parks from Ohio State, sophomore guard Chris Riddle from DePaul, sophomore guard Mynor Strong from Dodge City Community College, and senior guard Kyler Vanderjagt from Central Michigan.
