The Find the Kind series highlights kind acts big and small around the campus community

During the recent 2025 Midwest Region Crossover Oct. 17 and 18, the University of Findlay volleyball team did more than just play the game. It took some time to show a little kindness.
The 10 a.m. game on Friday paired fellow G-MAC team, Cedarville University against Grand Valley State University. But the Yellow Jackets had a little help from the Oilers.
The Lady Oilers cheered on G-MAC teams throughout the tournament and apparently got pretty loud for the Yellow Jackets.
Findlay senior organizational communication major Zoya Winkelfoos is a member of the volleyball team says that kind of mentality is something sports helps cultivate.
“I feel like all sports can teach sportsmanship and kindness,” Winkelfoos said. “Being part of the volleyball team here at UF, we count every win as a team win because everyone contributes in practice to make us better.”
The gesture of support did not go unnoticed. Abbey Buettell, the assistant athletic director for compliance at Cedarville sent an email to Brandi Laurita, UF vice president for student affairs and athletics, taking note of the support.
“Just wanted to pass along some encouragement. Our volleyball team played Grand Valley this morning and your volleyball team showed up and was really encouraging – cheering them on and bringing some energy. I’ve heard from our assistant coach and several players that this was big for them.
I know we tend to hear the negative stories, so I wanted to be sure to pass along the positive. Big thank you to your team!”
“Our team thrives on positivity and energy, little things like compliments and words of encouragement go a long way in boosting our confidence and mindset,” Winkelfoos said. “Sports really show how kindness and teamwork can make a huge difference.”
Cedarville beat No. 21 GVSU in four sets but lost to Maryville University in five sets and Quincy University in four sets.
Oilers beat Northern Michigan in three sets and University of Indianapolis on Friday in five sets but lost to Rockhurst University on Saturday in five sets.
The 14-3 Lady Oilers play Ursuline College Friday Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. in Croy and Lake Erie College Saturday at 4 p.m.
