The University of Findlay’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) is gearing up for one of its most popular autumn community events: Trunk or Treat. The event is open to campus and the public as a safe, family-friendly trick-or-treating opportunity. Athletes decorate their cars, dress up, and hand out candy to positively represent UF to the community.

“Trunk or Treat is a great tradition that represents the unity and spirit of the UF athletic teams” Lauren Sattler, a sophomore SAAC representative, said. “It is a very fun Halloween event that allows students to come together as teams and as a university, which is so special.”

“All the teams are going to be there in different manners with costumes and fully decorated cars,” said Benjamin Hall, a SAAC representative for the men’s cross country team. “It is a good opportunity for all the different sports teams to give back to the community, demonstrate the team aspect of Findlay, and show how much the community means to everyone at the University of Findlay.”

Trunk or Treat has become a tradition that teams look forward to every fall. Teams go all out to have the best decorated trunk and costumes, adding some unofficial competition to the night. Each team picks their own theme for their trunk, often involving elaborate scenes of creativity.

“It is always fun to see the various ideas the teams come up with and the children enjoying the event,” Sattler said. “I know the track team will be Barbie themed, and it is going to be really fun for everyone involved.”

The event is expected to be one of great excitement. Beyond the decorated cars and candy giveaways, Sattler says there will be activities for everyone. Last year, there was a dance battle for candy.

“As planning began, we knew that building the connection with the community is important as the University is so supported, and this event allows that, which is why it is so looked forward to,” said Hall.

Trunk or Treat is Oct. 25 in the Koehler Fitness and Recreation Complex parking lot from 6 to 8 p.m. The event is free to attend, and parking will be available in the Koehler Fitness Complex. Families are encouraged to come in costume and bring bags to collect candy.
